Established in Leominster, Herefordshire in 1846, Brightwells has evolved into a leading regional auction house, with a busy sales calendar encompassing antiques, fine art, horses, wine, plant and machinery, modern cars and 4x4s.
Brightwells held its first classic car and motorcycle auction in June 2005 at its purpose-built 10-acre site in Leominster, and now hosts at least five such sales each year. In 2015 it added a one-off auction to sell of the entire Stondon Motor Museum collection.
Specialist James Dennison, whose current classic is a 1962 Lancia Flaminia GT, has boundless enthusiasm and spends much of his life rooting around hedgerows and in barns digging out interesting finds, including missile launchers, hovercraft and planes, that are sold alongside the cars.
Classic car sales normally combine mainstream classics, a selection of pre- and post-war machinery, a few latter-day ‘young timers’ and entertaining curios and oddities.
Automobilia is occasionally included in sales of larger collections, such as museum disposals and estate sales.
